During a little bit of testing last night, I discovered that Internet Explorer is displaying the pages incorrectly again.
I’ll see if I can track down the issue. Thanks for your patience.
Update 10/19/2006:Â I’ve changed themes so that it all appears correctly and I think I’ll design my own from scratch to make sure that all is working the way I want it.

I like to eat. Anyone who knows me can tell that at a glance; svelte I am not. Many of my friends may not realize that I also love to cook. I’m not good at it, but I enjoy it. I have grand ideas and recipes to try out - just not the time.
In the meantime, I browse through a few recipe and food related websites; some are quite interesting, the boring ones I drop rather quickly.
Earlier today, I stumbled onto a website penned by maki; she calls her place i was just really hungry which while it may sound simple is a wonderful exploration of fine dining. Her description of a visit to L’Esparance a Vazelay in France is a detailed, fantastic description of what seems to be a delightful evening of gastronomic delight for her.
Now, I’m quite sure many of the dishes she and her dining partner were served were tasty and wonderful to them but, frankly, they were not my liking by description and past experience. Still, it was a delight to voyeuristicly watch over her shoulder as she explored the culinary creations.
Too late and too hot to cook, but perhaps a nice grilling is in the future; I’ve got a bit of inspiration going.

It is midnight.
I’m watching Futurama on Cartoon Network, eating nachos with the last of the chips and taco meat, browsing the web with the window air conditioner running and keeping the air a balmy 65 degrees.
All bad habits and I’m not giving one of them up.
So there.

A small brush fire near my home (not very close; a couple of miles away) dumped a lot of smoke in the air and contributed to a lovely sunset:

Unfortunately, my digital camera doesn’t do the sunset justice but you get the idea. Two minutes before I shot this photo the sun was up in the cloud and it would have turned out better, in my opinion, but oh well.
At one point on my drive home the smoke was thick enough to cross the road like fog… kind of a cool effect.

Just another test to see how this one works.
I tried Diarist but it was too buggy.
EDIT: this is the post I’ve been trying with ‘Blog In Hand’ for much of a day now to get posted. It finally posts when I’ve given up on it. Grrr.

Just a notice that in the coming weeks I will be redesigning the site quite a bit and there is a very good chance that stuff will get moved around.
Don’t say I didn’t tell you…

Low Fat Living
Don’t get the wrong impression - I don’t do this. Not even close. I should though, with some minor modifications.
I have to keep my carbohydrates low for health reasons so the fruit bits are difficult to work in, but I really like the idea of eliminating the food from your house that you don’t want to consume.
There really is only one big problem with that plan - I’m not the only one that lives in this house. The missus, the boy and the nephew all have different ideas on what they want to eat and none of it is low carb, low fat. Well, the missus thinks its a good idea, but doing it is another story. Yes, I could overrule and dictate but that is rarely a good idea.
So, for those of you out there, any suggestions on eating right when you have a house full of people with other priorities? I really don’t want to always cook my own meals; it kind of sucks. I’ve already had to give up pancakes (*sob*) and chips (well, not completely but cut waaaaaay down).

Learning Resources Center
The Digital Audio Initiative at the Learning Resources Center makes audio files in Mp3 format available for personal study and research.
How cool is this? A variety of classes, mostly about English and writing, available for personal study in mp3 format. Download, listen, take it on your personal music player and learn something.
I’ve downloaded the Science Fiction and Fantasy as well as the Short Story Fiction classes for now. Check it out.

Wearing That Cross Must Have Been Uncomfortable
“What’s was he saying? ‘Braaaaaaaaaains! Braaaaaaaaaains! But no condoooooooooms!’”
This is probably in very bad taste, but I found this exchange between the author and his wife just hilarious. I mean laugh out loud funny.

Mt. St. Helen’s is erupting again… it doesn’t even make the news any more. At this point, it would have to blow a bunch of lava, rock and ash for people to pay attention again.
Still, it is rather neat to watch. Mind you, I’m 900 miles away; not much to worry about from there. I’ve got the Wasatch Fault to stress over instead.
Here is a picture in case the site is slashdotted.
