  • Shaving with a good razor and shaving cream (not foamy) give me a shave I can use. Bad razors or electrics and I have end of day stubble. #
  • Attention world: This is a pork chop. It will not spread the flu. The butcher you bought it from can give you the flu, not the pork chop. #

  • Talk of tacos has me craving some Western food. Fortunately, a short walk discovered a McDonalds. Not great, but oh, sooo good. OMNOMNOMNOM. #

Simple Counting

Posted April 29th, 2009 in Commentary by tchansen

Just for the record, there is only one lane of traffic here. A common phenomenon here that I like to call what? Theres room.

If you count the car im taking the photo from that is three lanes of traffic in one lane. Very efficient. Kind of like using chicken feet as an appetizer.

Ill try to post some of the overloaded pictures tomorrow.

Can someone explain the rationale for carrying around an empty rim? From the dirt and dust on this thing, I’d say it has been tire-less for quite a while.

  • I was feeling all out of sorts this morning from a lack of sleep so I thought I’d take a quick cat nap. Four hours later, here I am. #
  • I just watched 30 – 40 police vehicles (bike, cars, vans, and prisoner buses) go west on Shen Nan Blvd., Futian, Shenzhen, China. Big noise. #

Vulcan Sends His Regards

Posted April 26th, 2009 in Commentary by tchansen

No, no, this isn’t about the new Star Trek movie; I’m enjoying the blissful ignorance around that until I go see it. In fact, I think when I get home the boy and I are going to have a Star Trek movie marathon in preparation for the new movie – he hasn’t seen any of the shows but is getting a bit interested (which gladdens my heart to no end, as much as I love Star Wars).

No, instead this little missive is about the recent volcanic eruption down in Tonga. Didn’t hear about that one? Well, it doesn’t have the raw sex appeal of a good Hollywood scandal so the local news station may have glossed on by.

Here are a few lovely photos, from io9, and a bit more information with a sensational headline from Google. The News Bizarre has a story and some lovely video from what appears to be a boat of tourists that dropped in for a closer look. (I love the bit around 19 seconds in about “Run away” and “Better start it up about 7 seconds later)

Your vulcanism tax dollars at work!

  • Don’t judge me decadent… Although I did just have a foot massage… And a pedicure… And a 90 min Japanese massage. Ok, it’s a fair cop. #

Warping Slogans

Posted April 24th, 2009 in Commentary by tchansen

So, this morning the venerable Mr. Scalzi commented that Milk Duds were probably not the best nutritional end to his daily repast.

Not content with that, I sent out the following:

"Milk duds… They’re not just for breakfast anymore!"

"Milk duds… It’s what’s for dinner."

The abovementioned bard added back:

"Milk Duds — because ‘nutrition’ is a FILTHY LIE."

So, internet, how would you pervert a perfectly good advertisement to push forth the idea that Milk Duds are, in fact, a perfectly adequate meal substitute?

Please leave your submissions in the comments. No pushing.

Shutterbugs Away!

Posted April 23rd, 2009 in Commentary by tchansen

I’ve had these web pages bouncing about in Firefox every time it starts up and one of these days Firefox will crash and I won’t remember where to find them. On the off chance some of you are avid photography enthusiasts, here are a few photo relevant articles

Now go! Capture!

… and then tell me so I can take a look because I definitely need proof that good photographers are made, not born.

  • Like tap dancing on lava while juggling squirming babies. #
  • Oreo cookies here are drier and have less stuffing, I think. I don’t usually eat Oreos but I have munchies this afternoon and they’re handy. #
  • The elevators always smell faintly like fish. It doesn’t matter which one I pick, a faint odor lingers as if a fish monger just checked in. #
  • Gray skies, gray buildings, gray cars, gray inside my head. I need a Hawai’ian shirt infusion with a side of karaoke bar and umbrella drink. #
