Daily Thoughts for 2008-08-31

  • Please repeat what you said,
    Funny noises in my head,
I got a code in my doze,
Oh, I got a code in my doze. #

God’s Palette

On Monday, we had a fire in the valley that filled the air with lovely particulates and ash.

Now, fires are scary, dangerous things, but they can add a bit of beauty to the world as well.

image Here are a few photos of the setting sun that take advantage of these bits in the air for some really spectacular images.

… and one ‘cheese’-y one as well.

Daily Thoughts for 2008-08-28

  • Everyone so far has asked why I’m all dressed up. “It was clean and close” doesn’t seem to be a sufficient answer for them. Makes me wonder… #
  • No sleep + no breakfast + candy bar + lack of caffeine = I want a nap NOW! #
  • Decided to take the rest of the day off for annual womb emergence remembrance. Celebrating by not eating my veggies and playing in traffic. #

Douglas Adams Year

As this is the beginning of my Douglas Adams Year, I have been reworking my web site.  Unfortunately, it isn’t working out like I planned yet but I have high hopes that the greater minds than mine can figure it out.

I think I’ll start on HHGTTG tonight, in celebration.

Stinging in the Wind

Yesterday, we had a fire spark up at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, down in Corner Canyon.  IMAGE_100Years ago, I used to ride motorcycles there, now it is new subdivisions and McMansions.

When I went for a short ride earlier to replenish my supply of diet soda, I noticed that it felt like I was riding in a sand storm.  I didn’t wear my helmet, but there wasn’t much wind or anything that would feel like that.

Except for ash particulates. There is still a bit of a haze in the air and I’m certain the micro-stinging was those same bits hittting my face at 30 miles per hour.

Still, I need my soda and it was well worth it for the dermal scrubbing.

Here is another shot of the smoke, IMAGE_103taken from the same location but a bit closer to the road so that you can see the mountain behind the smoke.

Thoughts for the day, 2008-08-16

  • Neighbor, why is your 11 year old daughter and friend walking down my street dressed like hookers at 10 PM on a Friday? Costume party maybe? #
  • @honu_girl re: placating the tech gods - you must sacrifice a virgin IT staff member. Should be easy - they are plentiful and willing… :D #

Thoughts for the day, 2008-08-14

  • @honu_girl “Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near?” Because they can, of course. It shows that they have the power to hijack. #

Thoughts for the day, 2008-08-13

  • http://twitpic.com/7i38 - David is pretending that life is like a box of chocolates. #
  • http://twitpic.com/7i67 - I’ve just thrown a plate, a sippy cup, and a handful of fries on the floor. Next! #
  • Word of caution: Don’t get in a pool with your mobile phone in your pocket. If you thought you were going to get me by phone, you’re wrong. #

Thoughts for the day, 2008-08-12

  • @honu_girl No, just saw the first part on a shirt and continued the meme. The dude it was on looked like that’d been the end of many a night #
  • http://twitpic.com/7eio - Teaching the little one right - orange cream soda, of course! #

Thoughts for the day, 2008-08-10

  • Just arrived back from Worldcon - Mary won the Campbell! Whooo! She rocks. We hung out in the SFWA suite and fixed food for the party. #
